Tutorial

Scalable I/O

Brian Gaffey and Marck DuChene
This tutorial will provide an overview of the hardware and software components available to address I/O scalability on T3E platforms. We will provide a description of the hardware components involved including the use of multiple gigarings, MPNs/FCNs. We will also describe the software available to improve scalability which currently includes multiple file servers (Remote Mount), File Server Assistant (FSA), multiple disk and packet servers, as well as disk striping, and pcache. Finally, we will present the available performance data for these features and compare those results to UNICOS where applicable.
