Acct Data for Other Purposes
Problem isolation:
- The poor man's audit.
- Event sequencing.
- How did a process die?
- What was running when a PE died?
- What was running in Oracle (non-Cray example)?
- And more (use your imagination)Ö
Where it does not help:
- Running processes have not written accounting records.
- If the system unexpectedly dies accounting records are not written.
- Only logs 8-16 bytes of the command and no path information.
- One must understand process interactions (Unicos provides pid).
- The time resolution is only to seconds.
- By default pacct files deleted nightly (need to save them).
