Within Lugano...you can take a break in the three city parcs: Parco Ciani, Parco Civico and Parco Tassino. The main shopping street, via Nassa, houses a selection of shops such as Luis Vuiton, Bucherrer and Armani. This same road is also the stage of the biweekly local market held on Tuesday and Friday from 8am 12am where you can buy anything from the most desirable porcini funghi, to local produce of cheese and salumi (meats). Or take an excursion on the lovely lake of Lugano. Excursions with a viewSituated either side of Lugano are Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore. Both boast cable car transport to the top and a splendid view of the surrounding area from the top. For further excursions to the roof of Lugano you can visit, Monte Tamaro, Monte Lema (said to be one of the most beautiful viewpoints of southern Switzerland), or Monte Generoso All can be reached by public transport and cable cars. |
Sight seeingThe Swiss Miniatur allows you to visit all the top sites of the country in their miniature version in Melide. Just along the lakeside from Lugano you will find the picturesque village of Gandria. You can reach this village on foot or by bus from Lugano. On the southern tip of the Monte Arbostora, just south of Lugano, you will find the village of Morcote, home to the Scherrer botanical parc and the church of Santa Maria del Sasso that rises high above the village build into the rockface, giving beautiful view of the surrounding area. Chocolate!!This would not be a Swiss destination if there was no chocolate excursion. The Alprose chocolate factory in Caslano can comfortably be reached from Lugano via the FLP-railway. Here you can catch a glimpse of chocolate in the making as well as its history. The on-site shop will give you the opportunity to stock up for the return journey. |
