Travel Information

Passports and Visas

A visitor visa may be required for travel to the United States, along with a valid passport. Please check with the American Embassy or Consulate in your area for detailed information, or talk to your travel agent.

Arriving by Plane

The Fairbanks International Airport is serviced by Alaska and Frontier Airlines year around. During the summer, service is also provided by Delta Airlines and Condor Travel. The Cray User Group has negotiated flight discounts with both Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of these discounts.

Most direct flights into Fairbanks originate in Seattle (SEA), Anchorage (ANC) or Minneapolis (MSP). Reduced fares can frequently be obtained by flying in to Anchorage, and then flying Frontier Airlines between Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is pleased to offer a 5% discount off any published fare to Fairbanks, Alaska, from any Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air city.

Valid Travel Dates: May 18, 2011 - May 31, 2011

Book online at www.alaskaair.com, and use Discount Code ECMF14 in the Flights Quick Search box.

Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines is pleased to offer a discount of 2 - 7% for travel to either Fairbanks, Alaska or Anchorage, Alaska from any SkyTeam Alliance city.

Valid Travel Dates: May 16, 2011 - June 3, 2011.

Reservations on Delta must be made by calling 1-800-328-1111 and using code NM6T4. This special discount is not available from the Delta website. No fee is charged for the call.

Condor Travel

Condor Travel provides a special fare sale each month, with reduced fares that are available for just 72 hours. We will update the monthly fare sale dates as soon as they are available.

Condor Travel offers direct flights from Frankfurt to Anchorage during the 2011 summer season. Short connecting flights from Anchorage to Fairbanks are then offered by several airlines including Frontier Airlines. You may also consider flying in to and out of Anchorage, and using the Alaska Train through the Denali National Park to reach Fairbanks.

Social Events

Cray Inc Social

The Cray Social will be held at the Alaska Salmon Bake. Busing will be provided from the hotel to the local attraction that provides an all-you-can-eat buffet of prime rib, salmon, halibut and bering sea cod. One of the indoor pavilions has been reserved for exclusive use by CUG and live music will be provided by the local band Celtic Confusion. The Alaska Salmon Bake is located in Pioneer Park (previously called Alaskaland and the site of the 1995 Alaska CUG). Take time to walk around the park and to attend the show at the Palace Saloon (discount tickets will be available for CUG attendees).

NOTE: buses depart for the Cray Social at 5:45pm

CUG Night Out

Busing will be provided to the Fountainhead Hotel Antique Auto Museum for the CUG 2011 Night Out. This museum is the creation of a local Fairbanksan who owns all of the cars on display, many of which are unique in the world and/or specially modified to meet the needs of early Alaska residents. Dine on Alaska delicacies, dance to a Big (Jazz) Band, and have your picture taken with Hank the Moose. This promises to be a fun-filled evening for all.
