CUG 2009 completed approximately two weeks
ago, and was very successful. James B. White (Trey) and Sherry
Hempfling and
their team put on a great conference. The meeting facilities were great, the food was excellent,
and the Night
Out was a blast at Dave and Buster’s.Our colleagues at EPCC will have to work hard to continue
the
exceptional meetings we have had the last few years in Lugano, Seattle,
Helsinki and Atlanta.Based on meetings
with the host planners, I am sure that they will be up to the challenge
for CUG
2010 in Edinburgh.
All payments for CUG 2009 have been made;
the conference cost $151,269 against income of $159,822 resulting in a
net of
$8,553. At this point, we are
halfway
through the CUG fiscal year, and it CUG operating costs are on track to
net -$4,440.Thus, the CUG fiscal year is
on track to net $4,113.
As of May 18, 2009, CUG had assets of $98,654,
which includes about $61,000 in accounts receivable. As expected, there are a few outstanding
liabilities including expenditures for contracts, CUG 2009 proceeding
development, and CUG office support.CUG
has enough assets to cover a single failed conference. Our planning goal, which we are on track to
meet, is that CUG be in a strong position to support the next
year’s
conference.
There were over 150 attendees at the annual
meeting this year.However, membership
has dropped to 31 sites.
A new treasurer was elected, James Rogers,
and will be taking over the treasurer duties.
Looking forward to seeing you Edinburg in
2010.
