September 10, 2020
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you are aware, Board of Directors elections are held each year. We have following positions up for re-election this year : President, Vice President, and one of three Directors at Large. Please, refer to CUG’s by-laws for a full list of the roles and responsibilities: https://cug.org/sites/default/files/Bylaws_10_May_2016.pdf. Please, also see attached CUG board responsibilities prospectus for a brief description of each position.
In a regular year, we would have elections at out user group meeting. This year the meeting has been postponed and will take place in a virtual environment. Due to these changes, the CUG board has proposed the following procedures for elections this year:
- Nominating Committee selects nominations and provides full list to CUG board: October 5, 2020.
- CUG board distributes ballot to site delegates: October 7th, 2020
Voting opens - Voting closes: October 26th, 2020
- President announces results at the General Session: October 27th, 2020
What does this mean for the CUG body?
The new procedure brings changes to our regular voting process. The most notable change is that there will be no possibility for late nominations. As the nomination committee chair, I ask all of you to consider if you would like to run for any of the positions listed above. If you would like to run, per CUG by-laws you are required to submit “a written statement by which the candidate offers assurances that, if elected, he or she will diligently fulfill the duties of the office or the position on the Board of Directors for which nominated during the term thereof.” In addition, please submit one paragraph (up to 250 words) as your “election pitch,” and/or a short (2-3 minute maximum duration) video with the same information that can be posted online. Printed statements and/or links to online video will be included in the ballot to assist site representatives with voting
All submissions must be emailed to lena@lanl.gov with
subject: “CUG election submission 2020”
If you are not interested in running but would like to nominate somebody else, I encourage you to reach out to that person and speak to them. Please, also let me know.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at lena@lanl.gov
Sincerely,
Chair of the Nominating Committee
Lena M Lopatina
