Wireless in Conference Space.
There is wireless access for your laptop computer throughout the conference venue. Please make sure your wireless access has not been disabled by your company/institution as we will not be able to modify this on site. SSH will be available on all systems.
Messages
During the conference (May 5th to 8th May), telephone messages will be taken at the on-site CUG Conference Office (+41 91 911 04 25).
Voltage
Switzerland operates on a 240V system; those travelling from abroad may need an adaptor. Check the Voltage Valet for information on requirements and to find adapters.
Smoking Policy
There is no smoking allowed at the Conference.

Customs regulations
Taxable goods: imported goods exceeding the duty free allowance for alcoholic beverages and/or tobacco products or goods exceeding an overall value of CHF 300.- are taxable. In this case, all goods and costs are taxable. When declaring your goods, please make sure you have all receipts and your travel documents at hand.
Duty free allowance for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products: the duty free allowance per day for alcoholic beverages is as follows (the person must be over 17 years of age)
Alcoholic beverages: up to 15% vol. 2 litres; over 15% vol. 1 litre
Tobacco goods: cigarettes 200, cigars 50, loose tobacco 250 gr. (fine cut tobacco, pipe, chewing, oral and snuff tobacco)
Beware of forgeries: it is against the law to bring in forgeries and pirated copies of goods, brands and designer objects of any kind, including for personal use. Detected forgeries will be confiscated, destroyed and you will be heavily fined.
Foodstuffs of animal origin: importing goods of animal origins (meat, dairy products) from non-EU or non-EFTA countries is prohibited.
Goods of plant origin: importing living plants or parts of plants (incl. fruits and vegetables) from non-EU and non-EFTA countries and the Canary Islands is subject to restrictions or is prohibited.
Currency
Although Euros are accepted in some places, Switzerland works with Swiss Francs. It is therefore advisable to have the local currency with you. You can exchange foreign currencies at any of the banks around the conference venue or in town.

Dining Services
Breakfast, Lunch and Refreshments
Breakfast is included in the price of all hotels. The registration fee includes morning and afternoon refreshments as well as lunch for the duration of the conference – running from Monday morning May 5th to Thursday afternoon May 8th, 2014.
Special dietary requirements should be noted on the conference registration form.
Dining Out
A wide variety of restaurants are available in downtown Lugano. Local instinct is to go for the full ones as that is usually a sign of good food.

Social Events
CUG Welcome Reception, Sunday 4th
On Sunday, all attendees and their guests are invited to a reception to renew existing acquaintances and establish new ones.
Special Event, Monday 5th
On Monday evening, attendees and their guests are invited to attend a dinner cruise on Lake Ceresio. Space is limited. Tickets will be provided on a first come, first served basis during on site registration. Data Direct Networks is our special event sponsor. CSCS staff will lead you from the convention center to the boat dock.
CUG Night Out, Tuesday 6th
On Tuesday all attendees and registered guests are invited to enjoy a night out organized by the Local Arrangements Committee. Intel Corporation is our event sponsor. The CUG Night Out will be held at the Castello di Morcote. The bus ride to the venue will take less than 30 minutes. During the night you will have the opportunity to taste some very refined food in a very special location on a cliff, 200 meters above the lake overlooking the village of Morcote, with breathtaking scenery.
Cray Event, Wednesday 7th
On Wednesday evening, attendees and their guests are invited to the Cray Networking Event sponsored by Cray and Intel. The venue is inside the Casinò Lugano across the street from the convention center at the lounge bar La Perla del Lago (ground floor). Heavy appetizers and drinks will be served.
