CUG 2013 Best Paper Award Winner

The CUG 2013 Best Paper Award was awarded to “Trillion Particles, 120,000 cores, and 350 TBs: Lessons Learned from a Hero I/O Run on Hopper”  Authors: Suren Byna (LBL), Prabhat (LBL), Andrew Uselton (LBL/NERSC), David Knaak (Cray), Yun (Helen) He (LBL/NERSC).

Dear Friends,

The National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) invites you to CUG2013 in beautiful Napa Valley, California. This will be an opportunity for users, developers and administrators to exchange ideas, solve problems and discuss the future of high performance computing.

The theme of this year’s conference, “A New Vintage of Computing”, reflects the newest crop of multi-core and many-core computing systems, as well as the growing impact of high end computing. Understanding the climate impacts on agriculture, developing new crops to fuel economic growth, and analyzing carbon mitigation techniques, are just a few of many new and fertile areas that can benefit from computationally driven advances in climate, genetics and systems biology.

Located at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, NERSC is the production computing facility for the US Department of Energy, Office of Science, and supports over 600 projects and 4000 users from laboratories, universities and research collaborations around the world. NERSC is home to Hopper, one of the first petaflop Cray XE-6 systems. Hopper is the latest in a long line of Cray systems deployed at NERSC that includes the Cray 1, Cray 2, Cray Y-MP, Cray C90, Cray J90, Cray SV1, Cray T3E, and Cray XT-4.

We welcome you to the heart of California’s wine country! Social events will provide venues for informal conversations, as well as opportunities to sample the culture, wines and food of the region. Wine tasting and a visit to the fabulous Castello di Amorosa are among the events planned.

Located an hour’s drive from San Francisco, the conference will be held at the Napa Valley Marriott. Family and friends are welcome to join you in this adventure.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sudip Dosanjh
